Key Club Meeting Minutes
 September 13, 2011

Key Club formed for the first meeting of the year. The meeting began at approximately 2:40PM with reciting the Key Club Pledge. New class representatives were chosen.

Freshmen: Gavin Hubbard
Sophomore: Sara Greer
Junior: Shell Sindle
Seniors: Jessica Beers and Taylor Dixon

As an organization, we decided on a time to host the semi-annual Highway Clean-up which will be held on one day during the first week of October. We also discussed possible candy bar sales that could be sold after school for an unknown price (but cheaper than the vending machines). We went over potential fundraisers and charitable activities such as cards to the elderly, prom dress drive, and Macy's Santa Letters.

Key Club's second meeting of the year. We began our meeting with the Key Club Pledge. Shortly after the pledge, we discussed the success of the Highway Clean-up then moved quickly onto new business. We discussed candy bar sales, UNICEF Trick-or-Treat Boxes, Christmas shoe boxes, Merry Money Sign-ups, and the Key Club Leadership Camp that will be in November. The UNICEF Trick-or-Treat boxes will be our next big project. We will giving little orange boxes to each homeroom class, and to make it a little more fun we will create a competition between homerooms. The homeroom with the most pennies will win with an incentive. Students can put non-penny monetary items into another homeroom's box to take away points from that homeroom. Each year Key Club participates in the Send A Shoebox charity, in which shoeboxes are donated to the organization, and members contribute items to send in. We planned upcoming projects such as Your Father's Kitchen - information will be announced later on. In line after Your Father's Kitchen is Holiday Mail for Heroes, and a Massie vs. EC competition with canned goods that will also be announced later.

We began our meeting reciting the Key Club Pledge. Afterwards, we discussed current service projects that are going on such as volunteering at either NVE or SE twice a month. We split up into groups to talk about potential funraisers and the Relay for Life that is accumulating for early June. We plan on selling carnations for St. Patrick's Day for a $1.50 at lunch. The Children's Miracle Network Hospital balloons were distributed to any member who was willing to sell them. We are selling these balloons for $1. The money will go to the Network who will distribute the money amongst all children's hospitals to aid children who need it most. The next meeting will be announced at a later date.

The purpose of this meeting was to inform members of upcoming service projects. As the school year is coming to an end, we focus on little projects that can help the community as we prepare for our biggest project of the year, Relay for Life. We are given paper stars and moons to sell for Relay for Life. $1 for each moon and $5 for each star. Sara Geer started off a new service project that collects old cell phones that will be turned in to be fixed and sent to troops overseas. The troops will be able to use these phones to communicate with their families home here in the States.
